Musical Instruments Tutorial | How to Play Piano

Here are some easy steps to play piano:

First, know how to read notes.

Second, be familiar with the keys.

Third, feel the rhythm.

Finally, practice, practice and practice! :)

All musical instruments require familiarity with notes. They can be syllable names: DO RE MI FA SOL LA SI/TI DO, or what we call musical alphabet: C D E F G A B C (Note: C is DO, D is RE, E is MI, F is FA and so on.)

One key to be familiar is trying to memorize them the normal way (DO RE MI FA SOL LA SI/TI DO or C D E F G A B C) and backwards (DO SO/TI LA SOL FA MI RE DO or C B A G F E D C)

The piano has black and white keys. For beginners, it is what get used with the white keys first.

Try playing the notes (C D E F G A B C or DO RE MI FA SOL LA TI DO) using your five fingers repeatedly for your right hand then your left hand as the picture below depicts:

Again, play the notes C D E F G A B C, A B C G F E D C repeatedly until your fingers are comfortable with the keys while playing while uttering the letters or syllables. Separately use your right and left hand, and then play them together when you can.

Rhythm and timing is very important in music. This denotes that there are slow, medium and fast music and notes. Some beginners learn the notes and keys fast, but rhythm is something that can’t be learned overnight, although a lot of people with inborn musical inclination get this aspect quick. First, know the difference between the quarter, half and whole notes. Quarter note gets one beat or one count; half note has two counts or beats and whole note has four counts.

Try doing four claps. For these claps, imagine one count is one beat or one count. That means that one clap is the quarter note, two claps for half note and four claps for the whole note. Then while doing four counts, play this piece:

Practice! Practice! Practice!
